WISHLIST for PCW.

Have you ever wanted to have some function added to PCWorld Forum/Communities? I think that many of us have some things in mind that would make it easier for PCW members to access the Forums.

Here is something that I would like to see:

WISHLIST = I want to be able to see at-a-glance, WHO is logged in.

How about you, do you have any wishes to add to the WISHLIST?

"Let's see, how do you spell evrythingk? Wheeere's that spellchecker?"

You can do this now, just not without a couple clicks.

Thanks for the link. No offense, but it looks more complicated because you have to take too many steps, and I don't know of anyone who has ever mentioned using it.

As I see it, there are a slew of things and redundant information set up there that maybe no one is using - and isn't that using up PCW's resources? Those resources could be freed up for something else, IMO.

What I'm talking about is automatically show the member's name online as soon as we log in. And the name disappears immediately when login off.

The empty space on the left hand side of the first page, under the Forums names, could be used to show the Members Logged In, Guests, etc. You can see at-a-glance who is there. It sounds more practical and I think even more fun.

I agree that there are changes that could be made to make it easier. Many of these changes (although not this particular one, to my knowledge) is included in an upcoming release of the software. Many of the changes that have been suggested (including this one) are not within our control. They would require the software that we use to be changed by the company that makes it. I do regularly pass our members' feedback to the company, and they do listen, but nothing happens quickly, of course.

Wish list - The empty space below the avatar on the left side can be filled up a bit . The online/offline tag can nicely fill up that space . Just a suggestion.

I hope I can describe this in a manner that makes sense~~~~~~~~~~~

In one of my auto forums, the forum posts a notification of any of your posts within any subforum you post into. What happens there is that as you enter any subforum, any posts you made in any particular heading topic within that subforum receives a check icon, which says you were there posting, even though someone else has posted after. I find that a very quick and useful visual, as it alerts me where I was posting when I browse the forum, even though I may not have recalled it at the time after I posted. I find it faster than scrolling around for the undercolor topic I posted in.

I don't know how pertinent this may be to your thoughts, but awhile back I reentered a forum blog post to help out a member. Anyway, coastie alerted me that, long story short, I was logged off at a that time. Now, I really don't know how coastie navigated to receive this info., but he may be a resource for a solution to ya.

I have found that finding logged on members is cumbersome, although I don't check that out very often.

K, does that make sense?

In PCW, we have to goto our history or remember what we visited. We should be able to do what the auto forum does, after all this is PCW!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, that's my contribution to the Wishlist.

Kellie... Like Knifeblade, I also think that finding online members is cumbersome. Oh, and hopefully, the next forum software update will fix the spellchecker, which sometimes misses obviously misspelled words (Hey... I can't help it if I have two left hands which keep tripping over each other on the keyboard)

I like the History idea too (without being deluged with email). Having the ability to flag conversations that you want to be able to find quickly would be a big plus.

Adama... Isn't the "Abuse" button at the bottom of each post what you're looking for?

Fixing the Spellchecker! I've run into that problem too. That's a good wish to add to the Wishlist too.

And, I was looking for the Report button on a Blog because I wanted to report some inappropriate stuff there.

Yeah... not only does the spellchecker sometimes miss misspelled words, but also flags words which it shouldn't in a computer and technology magazine (for example Firefox, website, spyware, etc). It even flags "spellchecker"!

I didn't really notice it before you mentioned it, but you're right... the "Abuse" button should be present on all types of postings (Discussions, Blogs, and Documents).

I know... A couple of weeks ago I was typing a comment and used the Spellchecker and it missed one word: laast it was supposed to be last. LOL My finger stayed a milliparsec too long on the a and double typed it and Spelly here missed it!
