Re: Ditch Your Fax Machine
eFax starts to charge a fee (or require upgrading to a paid account) when the number of inbound pages within a calendar month exceeds a threshold. We tripped that a couple years ago when negotiating the purchase of a home. Last month, I signed up with Packetel.com's $3.50/month service. It too gives me a random, non-toll-free number at which I receive ad-free faxes that Packetel forwards to my email inbox as .TIF or .PDF (my choice) files. In that format, no special software is required to use the service, unlike eFax, which requires a proprietary reader and includes advertising. Thus far, I'm thrilled with Packetel's fax service and even use it frequently simply to convert a paper document into a PDF for digital storage.
