Keyboard and mouse beat all? Really? The author has obviously never actually played with a Wii. The keyboard and mouse are the least realistic and least intuitive of all game controllers. I've shot lots of guns, and none of them had controls remotely resembling a keyboard and mouse. I've driven lots of cars, and not one had a keyboard and mouse interface. I've never seen an airplane with controls that resembled a keyboard and mouse. I've even been bowling a few times, and found rolling the bowling ball to be quite different from using a keyboard and mouse.

As far as standard controllers are concerned, the Wiimote is peerless in the consumer market, easily besting all challengers. They are the only standard controllers that offer any significant degree of realism. Keyboard and mouse come in a distant last in this category.

For me, it depends on the game, as some seem better suited for the PC than the console. I prefer to play stuff like Tomb Raider on the console, as it doesn't translate well to mouse & keyboard. On the other hand, I prefer to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the PC, for the same reason, that the Mouse and keyboard works better for me in that game. I am a primarily an RPG player and they work well on the PC. I have Oblivion in here now and have never tried the console version. I do like the titles that are out for the PC. coastie65

PC Gaming sucks. Its expensive, awkward and just not appealing to casual gamers. This is a horrible list of reasons. I dont think they even count as reasons because PC gaming is outdated. People pay thousands on expensive videocards and processors to have the same/worse experience as a console gamer (I notice no difference between the video card and an a console)

And I've never seen a car or an airplane with a wii mote interface, the wii mote is a stupid little gimmick toy for children, hardly the best possible controller for gaming

games running at resolutions of 3840x2400?oh ya i could see how the average pc gamer can afford to run their games at that resolution.

OK, First, keep the personal attacks out of the discussion. Now, The Wii has it's uses. It is being used quite extensively in Rehab programs. It also reaches across generations in it's appeal. I game on both the PC and a PS3. My PS2 is busted and haven't fixed or replaced it yet. As I said in my earlier posts, some games, due to the controls factor lend themselves better to one platform or the other. Some play better on the PC and others on a console. As far as spending Hundreds or Thousands on a gaming machine. NOPE. I didn't, and this thing is handling pretty much everything that is out there to date. Video card was less than $100 and it looks as good as any console. coastie65

I read a book about the factors that make a religion "evil" and one of them is a self-assured sense of absolute truth. Sound familiar?

The honest truth is that this is a HORRIBLY biased story, half your reasons are tenuously supported, and the other half ask me to arrange my entire living room around my PC. What the hell makes you think I would?

PC and consoles are a matter of preference above all else. You can tell a brick wall it's wrong, but that won't change the fact that it's still a brick wall... and brick walls don't have any concept of better or worse.

I don't call pointing at the edge of the screen to turn around a "peerless" experience.

The Wiimote breaks that most golden of game controller rules: every discrete action must be repeatable at will. The Wii is in someways a step in the right direction, but in others a stumbling faceplant.

as an avid pc gamer that i am, i agree 100% with all 15 reasons. good job on this article matt. reason #3 stands out. i just recently (about 3 weeks ago) grabbed four emulators and a ton of roms online for free, and am catching up with games that i played as a kid and never beat and now i am spending countless hours trying to beat them today. LOL! I love it! it is inevitable for gaming consoles. they evently end up as emulators. best all? FREE!

modding a pc game is crazy fun especially after you beat it several times and want something different to spice it up. example: i found ways to mod game files in Test Drive Unlimited for the pc and i tell ya'. changing your vehicles just for the mere looks can be very exciting. i have even changed the environment.

after a while one is going to get tired of full physical movements to game on the Wii. there are times where i just want to sit my lazy arse down and only move three body parts. my two hands, and mouth (hence, keyboard, mouse, and headset). i couldn't imagine playing a military game on the Wii. i'd rather go paintball shooting.

finally, pc gaming WILL outlast consoles. haven't you noticed that each console version is costing more and more, and each component required to play the console is going to be sold separately? soon you have to buy the power cord because it is sold separately. look at the Wii, so many additional components needed just to play a certain game. i guess at the end, both expensive equal out for the pc and consoles. hmmmm...

The Wii is not without its own drawbacks. For example, it has inferior graphics compared to, for example, the PS3. It also seems to have a limited library of games available, at least games that take advantage of the Wii's unique capabilities.

On the other hand, where Sony and Microsoft made evolutionary advances with their newest consoles, Nintendo made a revolutionary advance with theirs. Playing golf on the Wii is a lot closer to actually playing golf. Bowling on the Wii is a lot closer to actually bowling. As a pool player, I was able to beat everyone in the room the first time I ever played pool on the Wii because, while not perfect, the pool game is fairly realistic. Playing games on the Wii is about more than just pressing the right buttons at the right time.

One thing I have noticed is that everyone I know who owns a Wii (with a single exception) is someone who never would have considered purchasing a gaming console otherwise. Heck, even my retired parents bought one.

The Wii certainly has room for improvement. Nonetheless, it has redefined gaming, and the industry, as well as the market, will never be the same.

Things I can do on my PC/Laptop that I can also do on a console:

connect a gamepad, joystick, throttle, drive wheel

Things that my PC/Laptop can do that a console can't do (or do only with difficulty):

upgrade RAM, hard disk space, upgrade gpu and cpu, custom configure hardware and software

connect a keyboard and mouse which after decades of usage have become the most suited tools for entering data and navigating on a screen

use it to perform other tasks when not in use (for gaming) making the expenditure of a few hundred bucks/quid/francs/euros w/e currency worth it.

Let's face it, PC's and nowadays Laptops too, are the most versatile consoles in the market, they can multitask and serve multiple purposes, not to mention the fact that you can configure the hardware anyway you want instead of being stuck with the same specifications with very limited choices or no choices at all.

And there are PC versions of almost every accessory/controller designed for the console and for those that don't exist for the PC yet, it will only be a matter of time before someone either mods a console accessory for the PC or designs one.

Actually, an Hdd upgrade in a PS3 is relatively quick and easy, unlike the Xbox. Also all you need do is get an Hdd for a laptop and you are good to go. Computer upgrades are simpler though, with the possible exception of laptops, which are rather difficult under the best of circumstances. coastie65
