Re: Wii Sports Best Selling Video Game Ever?
I am glad to read that someone has called that site out on its ridiculous antics. Some sites will do anything for eyeballs, right? It will be interesting to watch what it does this year as online ad dollars shrink and more emphasis is placed on content quality vs. sheer number of visitors.
The truth is nobody thinks for a minute that Wii Sports falls as the number one video game title of all time. And the guy running the show over at that site obviously doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. It is true that Super Mario Bros. was bundled in various countries at NES launch and for sometime thereafter, however, the worldwide totals for SMB that make it one of the best selling titles of all time do not include bundled sales. An entirely separate SKU was needed to help SMB sales make it to the real market research group's lists, not a bundled one.
This is great news for Nintendo, regardless. Any press is good press, but I'm sure Nintendo was rolling on the ground with laughter when they read that story. Kudos to Nintendo but anti-kudos to that site for creating its own rules and disregarding the physics of basic marketing and statistics.
And may God help the gaming industry if there's any truth to the story that some investors use that site to make "informed" investment decisions. Holy Dear Mother of God.
